Bank Indonesia collaborated with Assemblr to Launch “Kenali Rupiah”, an Interactive Way to Check the Authenticity of Rupiah

Not everyone realizes that every Rupiah note holds more than just its role as a means of payment. This is the message Bank Indonesia (BI)—the central bank of the Republic of Indonesia, which safeguards monetary stability and supports national economic growth—wants to highlight. Through the Cinta, Bangga, dan Paham (CBP) Rupiah campaign, BI seeks to educate the public on Rupiah’s authenticity, history, and cultural significance.

The Character and Authenticity of Rupiah

As part of this campaign, Bank Indonesia set out to introduce Rupiah to the public in a fresh way. Beyond its face value, the Rupiah also reflects authenticity, history, and cultural heritage. With a modern educational approach, BI aspires for Rupiah to be seen not just as currency, but as a symbol of national identity worthy of appreciation.

One key challenge is how to communicate the features of Rupiah’s authenticity (Ciri Keaslian Uang Rupiah / CIKUR) effectively and engagingly to all segments of society. Traditional methods are often less interactive and fail to reach younger audiences who are more familiar with digital platforms. BI also needed a solution that presents both general and specific features, along with cultural elements, in a way that is accurate, accessible, and easy to understand. This called for an educational medium that combines accessibility, interactivity, and depth within one inclusive digital platform.

A New Way to Learn About Rupiah’s Authenticity

To address this, Bank Indonesia collaborated with Assemblr to launch Kenali Rupiah, a Web AR experience that leverages 3D and Augmented Reality as a medium for public education. Through this platform, users can explore Rupiah banknotes, particularly the Rp100,000 and Rp50,000 notes from the 2016 and 2022 series, in an interactive and immersive way.

The platform offers three modes of interaction: 3D Mode, Rupiah Mode (scan with real banknotes), and No-Rupiah Mode, which allows users to explore even without holding physical money. In addition, the website includes supporting content such as the history of Rupiah, tips for proper care, and other educational materials tied to the CBP Rupiah campaign. By adopting this digital approach, Bank Indonesia has expanded the reach of its public education efforts, delivering a learning experience that is relevant, accessible, and aligned with today’s spirit of innovation.

AR technology opens up limitless opportunities to create interactive experiences that connect brands and audiences in meaningful ways. At Assemblr, we help bring those ideas to life, just like with Kenali Rupiah.
